Books on CIAP via Ovid

If anyone would like to assist with reviewing the ebooks on CIAP please contact Christine Davie Christine.Davie@htech.health.nsw.gov.au or Trish Bennett patricb6@chw.edu.au

CIAP purchases the 13 Oxford texts and the OVID Core Package as listed on the site. CIAP can actually select from the Ovid list -see below- instead of purchasing the core collection and are keen to continue to fill any subject gaps in any way possible..
The books are listed on the OVID website http://www.ovid.com/site/catalog/Catalog_Book.jsp?top=2&mid=3&bottom=7&subsection=11

This would need to be done at renewal - April/May to calculate price variation as OVID would price accordingly but may be an opportunity to change the range of e-books to cover subject gaps or high usage areas.

The usage stats for Ovid Books: http://www.hcn.net.au/statistics/nswhealth/ovid/ovidbooks.pdf

We have an excel list of the Ovid e-books if anyone would prefer this format.
Thanks

Wish List for Journals

Reminder
KMRG (KNowledge Management Reference Group) is trying to review the original list of CLUG's 150 top journals to see if some extra titles may be able to be added to CIAP. The wish list was previously posted on the CLUG blog on 23 August (http://clugblog.blogspot.com/2007/08/ciap-wish-list-journals.html) .

There is no guarantee that CIAP will be able to obtain any of the new recommended journals but this is an opportunity to push home suggestions for some of the Allied Health material that has previouslybeen so neglected. We can highlight collection gaps with our suggestions/comments on the list.

If you have any feedback or added suggested titles please contact Trish Bennett - patricb6@chw.edu.au , or Graham Spooner - GSpooner@nursing.aust.edu.au by next Thursday 20 September 2007. If you would like to see the full list you may also contact the above.

Using DOIs with CIAP

Following the CLUG meeting last week there has been some discussion relating to using DOIs to access CIAP full text journals and resources.

CIAP have an information sheet and to access this see the What’s New@CIAP news. http://internal.health.nsw.gov.au:2001/

Some people have been getting confused by this - must admit I haven't ventured into this area yet so would be interested in some discussion on your experiences. Are people using this? How are you finding it? Please let us know because I'm sure we will all benefit from the discussion.

Wish List Journals for CIAP

KMRG (KNowledge Management Reference Group) is trying to review the original list of CLUG's 150 top journals to see if some extra titles may be able to be added to CIAP. The wish list is added below and has the added information of whether the journal is indexed on either Medline(M) or CINAHL (C). If you have any feedback please contact Trish Bennett - patricb6@chw.edu.au , or Graham Spooner - GSpooner@nursing.aust.edu.au.
If you would like to see the full list you may also contact the above.

Also just a reminder that CIAP will consider adding free/open access journals that are suggested by librarians. So if you find a journal that is free and indexed on Medline or CINAHL why not suggest it to CIAP so it can be linked out from the database and provide increased full text results for our clinicans?

CIAP are also doing an audit if the CIAP A-Z journal list and have asked the librarians for help. If you have time and would like to help in a systematic way please contact Bronwyn Potter Bronwyn.Potter@htech.health.nsw.gov.au but if not please keep your eyes out for inconsistencies and let CIAP know. Is the title is correct? Are holding statements correct? and Is access available where stated?

CIAP Librarian Users Group - CLUG Meeting

Hi

The Knowledge Management Reference Group met on Friday 3rd August after many months. This group and its role continue to be under review and perhaps, may be moving back to the previous role of CIAP support. We will let you know any developments.

Following the meeting it was thought that this would be a good time for any interested cluggers to get together for some round table discussion. We really need to work on reviewing the top 100 journals for inclusion in CIAP and any other issues and concerns that people would like to discuss.

We will be meeting this Thursday, 16 August, 9.30am at The College of Nursing, 14 Railway Parade, Burwood. Directions at: http://www.nursing.edu.au/Contacts/

You could let Graham (gspooner@nursing.aust.edu.au) know if you are going to be able to attend or, just show up.
Hope to see you there.
Thanks Trish

Meet with HCN Trainer

Hi,

I've been contacted by Victoria Gardner, who is the new trainer at HCN for CIAP. She is keen to glean information from us that could be useful to her training - what works, what doesn't, what should be covered and how, etc.

I said I'd get together a small group of librarians who do a fair bit of training, so that we can have a good discussion. It will probably be in the next few weeks - I'm just waiting to hear back on Victoria's availability. At this stage, I'm suggesting meeting here at the Department, but we can teleconference if that helps.

Please contact me at gwood@doh.health.nsw.gov.au if you'd like to be involved, or have any ideas / comments / thoughts.

Gillian

Direct linking to full-text articles

In case you miss this announcement on the CIAP page.

"CIAP is extremely please to announce that direct linking to full-text articles is now available for Non-OVID titles including MD Consult, Nursing Consult, Sciencedirect (incl. Lancet), Springer, Highwire (incl. NEJM) and Wiley journals. We would like to make a special mention of Shirley Farquher from OVID and Paul BouAntoun from HCN for all their hard work and dedication to make this possible."

This brings to fruition the premature announcement about this that I made on 30th March.

CIAP Renewals

CIAP renewals are presently being reviewed. There are some pressures due to products moving to e-only pricing models. Fortunately the Australian dollar is strong this year!
After there is agreement about the resources for renewal, notification of the renewal will be sent to Area Health Services for comment. This should commence late April with responses due mid-May to allow time to finalise the renewal process by mid-June. This is some advance notice so you can be ready if approached for comment.
